The White House's Lesson on Islamism & Hamas in the USA

On December 8, 2023, the White House distanced itself from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) following its executive director's controversial statements, which expressed satisfaction with the Hamas attack on October 7th.

CAIR is ideologically linked to the Muslim Brotherhood Movement, which also gave rise to Hamas. Established in Egypt in 1928, the Muslim Brotherhood has consistently promoted an antisemitic agenda. It aims to establish an Islamic Caliphate, encapsulated in its slogan "Islam is the solution." The foundation of organizations associated with the Muslim Brotherhood in the U.S. began in the 1960s, eventually becoming the most prominent organized Muslim force in the country. CAIR, founded in 1994, originated from individuals in the Islamic Association of Palestine, a part of the U.S. Hamas infrastructure at that time.

The White House condemned CAIR's comments as antisemitic. Previously, the White House had engaged with CAIR on issues like Islamophobia and had included the council in a document addressing antisemitism. However, following the incident, CAIR's name was removed from the document.

The alliance between leftist groups and Islamists in the West (we wrote on the issue before), known as the red-green alliance, has led to the adoption of the Hamas narrative by progressive groups, positioning Hamas as the legitimate representative of the Palestinian people. Antisemitic statements from Islamists often face little opposition under the guise of resisting oppression, which can be seen as the “racism of low expectations.”

Islamist in the white house

In 2018, the first two Muslim Members of Congress from the progressive wing of the Democratic Party, Representatives Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar, were elected. Both frequently participate in anti-Israel events sponsored by groups linked to the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas.

This mainstreaming of Islamism has led to calls, predominantly from CAIR, for the U.S. to withdraw support from Israel and push for an immediate ceasefire before achieving its military objectives. This trend has also significantly contributed to the rise of antisemitism in America and beyond.

Fortunately , this dynamic is increasingly being recognized as a threat to Western democracies. Many Islamist entities are hostile toward the West itself. The events of October 7th might also present an opportunity to challenge the influence of radical Islamist groups in America and in the West at large.
